DIY Spot Removal - Springfield,MO.

DIY Spot Removal –Springfield, MO.

There are many different types of spots caused by spills on to your carpet. And various home remedies to get them cleaned up. Here are some solutions to a few common spills as recommended by the carpet and rug institute (CRI).  The first thing to remember is that the faster you act the better results you will have in completely removing the spot so that it doesn’t become a stain.

Most carpet today is treated with a stain resistant coating so that spots can easily be removed. It also helps slow down the wear by reducing friction.  Over time this will go away but can be replaced by Ultra Carpet Care in Springfiels,MO. after we Steam clean your carpet.

Always blot liquids with a white absorbent towel or non-printed paper towels. Do not scrub but rather allow the spill to absorb until dry. Next apply the cleaning solution from the list below to the area and allow it to sit for several minutes. Then, start to work it in gently.  Work from the edges in and continue as long as you see transfer from the spot into the towel. After the spot has been removed, rinse it with cold water then blot until dry.

Blood - Mix one fourth tsp. liquid dish washing soap (not an automatic dish washing detergent, it may contain bleaching agents that destroy dyes and some fibers) per one cup of warm water. More soap is not better; too much soap can leave a sticky residue that can cause a spot latter. Pour on to the spot and blot until all of the blood is gone.

Alcohol / Beverages - Mix one fourth tsp. liquid dish washing soap per one cup of warm water. (Again, non bleach) More soap is never better; too much soap can leave a sticky residue that can cause a spot latter. Then mix one cup of white vinegar per two cups of water to rinse. Blot until dry. Then rinse with water and blot dry once again.

Tomato Sauce- Mix one fourth tsp. of liquid dish washing soap per one cup of warm water. Then mix one cup of white vinegar per two cups of water to rinse, blot until dry. Then, rinse with water and blot dry once again.

Grape Juice- Mix one fourth tsp. of liquid dish washing soap per one cup of warm water. Then mix one cup of white vinegar per two cups of water to rinse. Blot until dry. Then rinse with water and blot dry once again.

Makeup - If the makeup is a water base follow the same dish washing soap and warm water solution to remove the spot in your carpet. If it is an oil base product put some Goof-Off®,  Carbona®, or K2R® on the spot and follow the dish soap procedures.
